Highlights

Conversion of an iconic Grade II listed building on Salisbury’s market square

The Challenge

D&N was instructed to complete a complex restoration of a landmark listed building overlooking Salisbury’s market square. Having been empty for some years, the building had fallen into disrepair – with a leaking roof, blocked gutters and a poor decorative state throughout.

The ground floor was to become the flagship store for a national jeweller and the upper floors would become luxury flats.

Our Solution

We consulted with local conservation officers and planners to ensure that the work was carried out to the highest standards while preserving the historical fabric and architectural features. This included restoring several stained-glass windows and installing a bespoke spiral staircase on the ground floor.

Liaising with acoustic engineers, we installed bespoke secondary glazing that minimised city centre noise while fitting in sympathetically with the building’s historic character. We also managed the structural aspects of the shop fit, working closely with the jeweller to meet his exacting needs.

Project Success

Despite the logistical challenges presented by the site’s city centre location, the development was completed on schedule and within budget – restoring this spectacular building to its original grandeur.
